A/OPE/FA serves as the principal federal assistance advisor office to the Department of State. We are responsible for the business management aspects of grants and cooperative agreements for both domestic and overseas federal assistance programs.
The Federal Assistance Division provides guidance to other departmental elements on federal assistance actions for all grant programs.
We facilitate the management and interpretation of Department of State grants and ensure compliance with regulations, guidelines, policies and directives.
We develop federal assistance policy directives to improve overall quality of grant administration.
The Federal Assistance Division is also responsible for the training of potential Grants Officers, and appointment of Grants Officers with warranted signature authority to approve domestic and overseas grants.
